Fire Partition for cable tunnel
Cable tunnels are life line for supplying power to different plants or factories in large plant like steel plants. Tunnels are also there in many power plants. In case of fire, cables in tunnel become fire spreading medium, which affects large portion of tunnel and disrupt multiple sections of plants. It is also difficult to extinguish fire in tunnel. As precaution, all large tunnels are divided to multiple compartment by installing fire partitions.
Fire partitions are installed near all zones of air circulation, Opening of tunnel. The partition may be installed in specified distance as per NBC and Indian standard.
The partitions normally has to be 2 hours to 3 hours . The key requirement for such partition are :
- The blank (non cable tray area shall be wall 2 hours and make of ligjht gypsum partition or Concrete or brick and mortar complying ATM E 119.
- The cable penetrating area shall be sealed with a tested design OF FIRE BARRIER tested for multiple trays of 600 to 900 mm complying ASTM E 810. The barrier system shall be easy for retrofit or replacement of new cable.
- There shall be appropriate fire doors integrated to partition wall and fire barrier.
